Tom Griffiths is Emeritus Professor in the School of History at the Australian National University, Chair of the Editorial Board of the Australian Dictionary of Biography and was Foundation Director of the Centre for Environmental History at ANU. His research, writing and teaching are in the fields of Australian social, cultural and environmental history, public history, comparative global environmental history, the writing of non-fiction, and the history of Antarctica.
Julianne Schultz is Professor Emerita Media and Culture at Griffith University. She was the publisher and founding editor of Griffith Review from 2003-2021 and Professor of Media and Culture in the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research, Griffith University. She was the Chair of The Conversation Media Group from 2019 until 2023 and is a member of the board of the Sydney Writers Festival. She writes a fortnightly column for The Guardian and has written several books.
Defending Country recently published extracts from Professor Griffiths' 2023 article in Inside Story on the long and deep history of Australia.
Professor Schultz published an article today in Guardian Australia commenting on Raymond Evans' recent lecture on Samuel Griffiths and the Native Police in Queensland.
Tom Griffiths' work was featured on our companion website Honest History, particularly this review by Diane Bell of his The Art of Time Travel (2016).
Honest History also reviewed Julianne Schultz's important book, The Idea of Australia (2022). She is currently working with Blackfella Films on a television adaptation of the book, for broadcast by SBS.
